Along with artist Robert Vo and musician Joe McMahon, we’re taking Rachel Rising to new ground. We’ve begun planning an immersive multimedia experience that includes the poetry, the song cycle, original artworks, original music and sounds, spoken word and more.

Composer James R. Carlson is known for putting together innovative music and multimedia programs. Scheduled for spring of 2010, he is designing a program called “Music and Healing” to be performed in Knoxville. The program will include, among other things, excerpts from “Rachel Rising”. We will post the date here when the schedule is set; right now it looks as though it will be April 17 or May 1 2010 . Watch this space for more news!

World Premiere performance a success!

With thanks to all involved, last night’s performance went very well. The art exhibits were phenomenal, and as I listen to the recording, I hear some really fantastic musical moments. A success in every measure. My perpetual thanks to everyone — artists, musicians, Haven House board and friends, attendees, sponsors.

The hour is nearly upon us

This week we’ll be giving “Rachel Rising” its first public performance, hopefully the first of many. Rehearsals have been good — one always wishes for more time to pull things together, but I think it will go well. We’ve had some good publicity around the event, thanks to Blount Today, The (Maryville) Daily Times, and WNOX.

It’s amazing to finally hear it come together — I’ve waited a dozen years for this moment, and at last it has arrived!

Location set!

Great news: we have secured a location for the performance, and therefore an exact date and time.

Our heartfelt gratitude to Fairview United Methodist Church in Maryville Tennessee for extending their generosity to this project! The space is beautiful, both visually and acoustically, and will be a gorgeous setting for this important event.
